Earth Glass Orb

Creating a glass orb

In this tutorial we will learn to create a glass orb. You will learn about using the clipping mask and some basic brush techniques to create a glossy look.  Final output of the image can be found below:-

Create a new layer. Draw a circle with Elliptical Marquee tool.
Select #031A32 as foreground and #2A4968 as background color. Click on gradient tool. Click on foreground to background as gradient type and select linear gradient to fill the shape.

Keep the selection active. Select $869DBD as foreground color. Use high featherd brush ( I have used 65 feather soft stroke brush) to draw this on the upper side of the circle.

Now change the foreground color to white and draw this 'spot' against the upper spot.

Change the foreground color to #AFB0AD. Draw these two shapes with brush. Note that I have hidden the layer just to show where to draw those shapes.

Now, use the type tool. Type 0251 by holding alt key. Change the font to 'Webdings'. Set the size to 200 pt. Place it as shown in the figure.

Alt click on the place between the type layer and our first layer which I renamed to globe. This will create a clipping mask between the two layers.

Rasterize the type layer by right clicking on its layer name in layer pallate and select rasterize. Use 'Dodge Tool' to add some lighting in it. Our image is ready.
