Candy Cane
The holiday season is fast approaching and what better way to kick it off with a tutorial on that peppermint-y bit of confectionery goodness, the candy cane.
Start with a new document (mine’s 200×300px) and create a new layer and call it “candy cane”. Now grab your circular marquee tool and draw a circle around 85-90px in diameter and fill ti with black, like so.

Next, create another new layer and make another circle, this time in white. You want it to be about 40px smaller than your first circle and centered exactly on top of it.

Now Ctrl+Click on the white circle to load its selection. Then, delete the white circle layer so that you’re again editing on the original “candy cane” layer. Hit delete to delete the inner portion of this layer.
Next, take your rectangular marquee tool and delete the bottom half of the ring you just created.

We’ve now created the top curve of our candy cane. Next, we want to create both sides, so using your rectangular marquee tool again, carefully draw both sides of the candy cane, making sure the width of your rectangles matches the width of the ends of the curved section (20px).

Next, we need to make the bottom ends of our side sections rounded. The easiest way to do this is to just grab the circular marquee tool again and create a 20px in diameter circle, position it over the end and fill it with black. Repeat the process for the other side of the candy cane.
